Tungsten Cylinders

OTDDerby Monkey Tungsten Cylinders are 9.8mm in diameter x 10.5mm in length and weigh 0.5 oz each. Tungsten is the world's 4th heaviest metal. It weighs up to 1.8x as much as lead and over 3x the weight of the Zinc/Pewter weights. This is the perfect weight for Pinewood Derby Cars.

Tungsten is a safe non-toxic metal and it takes up less space in your car. Less space, means more weight concentration in the CG area, faster building time and more speed on the track.

  • 2 oz. - 4 cylinders - $8.99
  • 3 oz. - 6 cylinders - $13.95
  • 4 oz. - 8 cylinders - $17.95  

These Tungsten cylinders are made specifically for Pinewood Derby cars and has its own alloy formula to weigh more than other tungsten cylinders. Why, because with our cylinders it will take less of them and will cost less. Just because someone says "solid Tungsten" does not mean they really are. Tungsten by itself is materially unstable and is easily shattered no matter how it is sintered (formed). Since all Tungsten forms are mixed with a bonding alloy of either Nickel, Copper, Iron or a combination of them, the atomic density will vary. We have specified the heaviest density of Tungsten (W) percentage to bonding alloy that is possible.
