The Derby Monkey Ultimate Axle Polishing Kit is designed to polish your Pinewood Derby car axles to the maximum level possible. This complete kit will allow you to create the most optimized axles for top speeds and district championships.
The kit consists of a total of 12 sheets of sandpaper which include 3 sheets of industrial grade wet/dry sandpaper and 9 sheets of Micro-Mesh ultra-fine finishing sheets. You will also get one jar of Monkey Jam Premium Axle Polish, one micro-fiber polishing cloth and instructions on how to put a district caliber polish on your Pinewood Derby axles. Why is Micro-Mesh Superior? Micro-Mesh is made with a flexible cloth backing, topped with a layer of specially formulated latex. Silicone carbide or aluminum oxide crystals are bonded with a flexible glue. The various sizes of abrasive grit are adhered onto the cloth backing in such a manner that the crystals are held in a resilient matrix, as opposed to a hard matrix (such as what is normally used in sandpaper or emery cloth). When contact pressure is applied to the axle shaft, Micro-Mesh crystals recede and rotate slightly to present their sharp cutting edges evenly across the axle surface, cutting together on the same plane with a positive rake. Because the crystals can move back into the cushion, a very fine scratch pattern is produced with a relatively large crystal. The result is a uniform, even surface polish pattern that requires fewer aggressive steps to produce the final finish. The larger crystals and the flexible glue bond result in longer lasting material that resists loading and heat build up. The result is reduced polishing time and the production of the finest and most uniform axle surface known.

Instructions
Cut each sandpaper into 1/4" strips, 3½" long
Insert axle in drill and start
Use a file to remove the crimp marks on the axle head and shaft
Dip a strip of 3the 400 grit sandpaper in water
Apply sandpaper to the spinning axle for 15 seconds
Polish the portion of the axle on which the wheel will spin
Polish the inside of the axle head
Repeat steps 4-7 using the other papers in order
Rub a liberal amount of Monkey Jam on a new ¼” strip of polishing cloth
Slide cloth back and forth on axle shaft and inside of nail head
