Micro-Mesh Variety Pack
A popular choice of Pinewood Derby League Racers. The Micro-Mesh Variety Pack contains one 3" x 4" sheet of each 6 grades of the Micro-Mesh Regular series, 3,200 through 12,000.
Abrasive colors of this product range from dark gray to light gray. This material is made to be used wet or dry, is made with a flexible cotton backing with polymer emulsion cushioning layer and large micron graded silicon carbide crystals suspended in an ultra flexible resin bond.
Grades 8000 and 12000 are made with aluminum oxide crystals.
Micro-Mesh Variety Pack contains the following 6 grades, from fine, to extra fine, one sheet each:
• 3,200 grit
• 3,600 grit
• 4,000 grit
• 6,000 grit
• 8,000 grit
• 12,000 grit
Enough to fine polish at least 12 sets of axles.
Why is Micro-Mesh So Good?
Micro-Mesh is made with a flexible cloth backing, topped with a layer of especially formulated latex. Silicone carbide or aluminum oxide crystals are bonded with a flexible glue. The various sizes of abrasive grit are adhered on the cloth backing ins such a manner that the crystals are held in a resilient matrix, as opposed to a hard matrix (such as what is normally used in sandpaper or emery cloth). When contact pressure is applies to the work piece, Micro-Mesh crystals recede and rotate slightly to present their sharp cutting edges evenly across the surface, cutting together on the same plane with a positive rake. Because the crystals can move back into the cushion, a very fine scratch pattern is produced with a relatively large crystal. The result is a uniform, even surface pattern the requires fewer aggressive steps to produce the final finish. The larger crystals and the flexible glue bond result in longer lasting material the resists loading and heat build up. The result is reduced polishing time and the production of the finest uniform axle surface for a wicked fast ride.
